If we fail to nourish our souls, they wither, and without soul life ceases to have meaning. Life becomes boring; it has no dimension. Without soul, we have no ears to hear great music, no perception to understand poetry or dreams, no eyes to appreciate fine art. The creative process shrivels in the absence of continual dialogue with soul. And creativity is what makes life worth living.
Increasingly, I have found that growing older releases soul. It's as if I have new eyes and new ears, a new nose and new fingers. Everything has become a new experience--from an autumn walk to my grandnephew's smile. I saw these things before, but now I see them as part of the totality I call God.
